Know that the LORD is God. It is he who made us, and we are his; we are his people, the sheep of his pasture -Psalm 100:3

It is a joy to serve a wonderful, loving God. One of the highlights for me spiritually in the past year has been the growth in understanding of the depth of grace that God has shown me. I am continually amazed and overjoyed that God loves me and has called me to serve him. I am thankful that God has allowed me to serve the families of LEMC for the last four years. I am also grateful to God for blessing me with an amazing, supportive wife in Leah. And together we praise God for the birth of our son, Elliot, in 2011.

Come and see what God has done, his awesome deeds for mankind! -Psalm 66:5

There is much to report about God’s awesome deeds for us during the last year. Both youth groups got off to a great start with Ice Camp in the winter of 2011. The students heard amazing worship and powerful speakers in the winter wonderland of Miracle Camp. The highlight for the high school weekend was the breakout sessions after chapel. Much healing took place in some of the teenagers’ lives, and we praise God for four first time professions of faith that were made to God.

The goals of the Exit 22 youth ministry come from Matthew 22:37-40. They are to 1) love the Lord with all of our hearts, souls, and minds; and 2) love our neighbor as ourselves. With God’s grace, I believe we have strived to do that this year as we studied God’s word and grew in faith. Last March, we were able to attend Silver Ring Thing where many of our students made a commitment to sexual purity. During this time the youth groups were in full swing studying the books of first and second Timothy. I am extremely grateful for the adults that volunteer every week and on special occasions. The leaders for the middle school group were Adam Winner, Lindsey Bullock, Lindsay Rottmeyer, Jill Bullock, Tim Marsh, and Tanya Marsh. The leaders for the high school were Jeff Huffman, Leah Baldwin, Laura Rupp, and Frank Colarusso. This school year Dorie Baldus has rejoined the middle school team along with Caleb Figg and Brad Hausser. I am also thankful to the many parents that are willing to step in and help in any way on a moments notice. It is a pleasure to serve alongside so many great people.

Spring break of last year was a chance for ten of our kids to join Laura Rupp and me on a mission trip to Niagara Falls, NY. We worked at an after school club for kids called Hope Club of Niagara, cleaned and painted extra space for the ministry, visited a homeless shelter, and took in the majestic Niagara Falls. It was chance for many teenagers to experience a mission trip for the first time.

The summer was filled with day trips to the beach, a camping and canoeing trip for the middle school group, World Pulse Festival, a car wash workday, and “Ice Cream from Heaven.” The teens also joined with the church body in studying through the book of Daniel. The highlight of the year also took place during summer. I had the privilege of being a part of the baptisms of eight of the teenagers. I praise God for the work that He is doing in the lives of the students of Lawton and I am humbled to be a part of it.

The middle school group ended the summer with a swim party, and when the students went back to school we kicked off the year with a scavenger hunt that covered most of Lawton. I taught on the major events in the life of Jesus during the fall of 2011. At the high school kick-off we played a game called “Bigger and Better” where teams of students traded up from a paper clip to items as big as a doghouse and as better as working dishwasher. The students were challenged by reading the book Radical and by studying some of some of Jesus’ more difficult teachings.

It is exciting to serve God at LEMC. I am grateful with how much support and encouragement I receive from the people of the church. Thank you, parents, for giving me the opportunity to work with you and your kids. I would also like to thank Pastor Roger and elders for the support they provide me and the ministry. May God continue to be glorified by the youth ministry of LEMC.
